Black Box Introduces Two Lines of Console Servers with Embedded Modems and 4G Wireless

Ensure business continuity, maximize uptime and securely manage network equipment from anywhere

Pittsburgh/Utrecht, January 2017 – Black Box, a leading technology solutions provider of commercial and industrial IT networking solutions, today announced two new lines of console servers that provide secure and reliable out-of-band management of remote network infrastructure. These servers give IT administrators affordable, independent access to remote networking equipment, even if the data network is down.

Console servers are used to remotely reconfigure, reboot and reimage devices with serial console ports such as switches, routers, servers, PBXs, video conferencing systems, firewalls, PDUs, and environmental monitoring equipment. They also enable quick disaster recovery after power outages.

The console servers are designed for a number of applications and uses:

  • Secure, remote access to data centers
  • Management of IT assets in remote, distributed locations
  • Organisations with branch offices and remote sites
  • Tenants at colocation data centers
  • Business continuity
  • Disaster recovery
  • Eliminating truck rolls
  • Centralising IT support
  • Enforcing enterprise-grade security

Black Box’s new console servers offer secure WAN connections via Ethernet, POTS modems, and 4G cellular wireless. Black Box is one of very few vendors to offer embedded 4G wireless connectivity. The servers also feature enterprise-level security, including FIPS validated encryption, and USB ports for peripherals.

The affordable LES1600 series comes with four or eight ports. The advanced LES1700 series features dual Ethernet uplinks and dual power supplies for high reliability. They come with eight, 16, 32 or 48 ports.

“This line expansion gives IT administrators more choices for setting up out-of-band remote device management,” says Josh Whitney, Vice President / GM - Technology Products business unit at Black Box. "The 4G wireless connectivity is particularly appealing because it offers ubiquitous coverage.”
